The high school winter sports season got underway on Wednesday. Here’s a recap of what took place for Umpqua Basin teams.

Collin Warmouth scored 26 points to lead three players in double-figures and the Roseburg boys defeated Eagle Point 75-53. Warmouth made three 3-pointers and went 11-for-13 from the free throw line. He finished one-point shy of tying his career-high.

Carson Ellis chipped in 14 points off the bench and Jonathan Stone added 10.

The Roseburg girls, a late push against Eagle Point couldn’t make up for a slow start. The Indians fell 46-33 to the Eagles in new head coach Dane Tornell’s first game.

Roseburg fell behind by 10 at halftime and trailed by 20 after the third. The Indians outscored Eagle Point 16-9 in the fourth period, but it was too little, too late.

Jazz Murphy led Roseburg with 11 points.

The Glide teams swept Myrtle Point. The Wildcats won the girls’ match-up 43-35 behind 17 points from Johanna Pope and the boy’s won 70-46 thanks to 21 points from Dillon Towne.

Senior Aaron Buechley scored 41 points to lead the Umpqua Valley Christian boys to a 66-52 win over Lowell. Liz Jarvis scored 14 points to pace the UVC girls, but the Monarchs let a lead slip away in the fourth quarter of a 30-28 loss.

Riddle’s Nate Hopkins scored 30 and Dylan McFadden added 24 as the Irish boys netted a 93-39 rout of Milo Adventist Academy. The Riddle girls fell 27-17.
