Prep Soccer: Roseburg upsets McMinnville 1-0 for historic playoff win
McMINNVILLE — It’s on to the quarterfinals of the OSAA Class 6A state playoffs for the Roseburg girls soccer team.
The 13-seed Indians went to McMinnville and pulled off a 1-0 upset win over the 4-seed Grizzlies on Wednesday night.
The victory marks the deepest postseason run the Roseburg girls’ soccer program has have ever had in the state playoffs. The Indians hadn’t even won a playoff game since 2009.
Molly Smith netted the lone goal of the match in the 66th minute on an assist from Kyleigh Miller.
“It’s definitely exciting because, Roseburg hasn’t made it past the first round in like the past 15 years, I think, so it’s definitely amazing to be setting a legacy,” Smith said.
Roseburg’s goalkeeper Corrine White was the star of the night. The sophomore was lights out in net with 15 saves.
“I went into this game thinking I was going to get scored on,” White said. “I wasn’t sure we were going to win but I was just going to play for fun and see what happened and we won.”
Up next, the Roseburg girls will visit the Lincoln Cardinals on Saturday in Portland.
Lincoln beat last year’s state runner-up West Linn 5-0 in the second round on Wednesday to advance to the quarterfinals. The Cardinals reached the semifinals in 2025 before losing to West Linn on penalty kicks.
