Prep Football: North Douglas falls to Crosspoint Christian, 26-14

KLAMATH FALLS — The North Douglas Warriors couldn’t hang with Crosspoint Christian down the stretch in a 26-14 nonleague loss to start the season Friday night at Crosspoint Christian School.

North Douglas coach JJ Mast said a 70-yard interception return for a touchdown by Crosspoint Christian in the third quarter proved to be a backbreaker in the battle of the Warriors.

Both teams entered the contest ranked fourth in the OSAA’s preseason coaches poll.

The pick-6 by Nate Gibson was his third touchdown of the game and broke a 14-14 score. Crosspoint tacked on another touchdown in the fourth quarter to seal the win.

Gibson started the game with a 54-yard touchdown run in the first quarter and tacked on the two-point conversion. North Douglas (0-1) tied the game on a Brogan Luke touchdown run in the second quarter.

Crosspoint (1-0) retook the lead before halftime on Gibson’s second score of the night and went to the break ahead 14-8.

Chase Cyr evened the score again as the North Douglas quarterback ran one in from 52-yard in the third quarter, but the Warriors’ offense stalled from there.

Easton Mast had 68 yards on 11 carries for North Douglas.

Up next, North Douglas will face Joseph as a part of the Dufur Classic at 1 p.m. Friday.
