Legion Baseball: Docs sweep Central Oregon for first Area 4 victories

The Roseburg Dr. Stewart’s ended an 0-5 start to league play with a pair of wins over the Central Oregon Generals on Wednesday afternoon at Champion Car Wash Field.

The Docs rallied to take the opener 9-4 and finished off the day with a 10-0 victory in five innings. The wins stretched Roseburg’s overall win streak to five games.

Dr. Stewart’s (9-7, 2-5 Area 4) overcame a 2-0 deficit with a pair of runs in the third inning and then took the lead for good with five runs in the fourth against Central Oregon starter Garrett Oatman.

Fletcher Coleman had two of his four RBIs in Roseburg’s five-run inning. He drilled a one-out single to right field to score Paxton Burke and Logan Shipman and put the Docs ahead 5-2. Teagan Sprague capped off the scoring with a two-run, two-out single to give the Stewies a 7-2 advantage.

Coleman finished 2-for-3 with four RBIs and Sprague was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.

Greyson Coate pitched the final four innings and picked up his team-leading fourth win of the summer. He allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits with two walks and two strikeouts.

Kaden Cooper drove in a pair of runs for Central Oregon (10-8, 0-4) with a pair of sacrifice flies.

The Docs jumped all over the Generals in Game 2, scoring in three of the four innings they came up to bat.

Sprague was a force at the plate once again. The rising-senior at Umpqua Valley Christian was 3-for-3 with another double and four more RBIs.

Christian Korba was also 3-for-3 in the game and Logan Anderson had a pair of hits.

Wade Molatore earned the win after going four innings in the start. He allowed just two hits and had five strikeouts with one walk.

The Docs head to Corvallis for the 49th Mickey Riley Star Spangled Tournament starting Thursday at Hansen Stadium at Taylor Field. Roseburg will play four games over four days.
