Prep Tennis: Roseburg’s Alex Totoian claims 6A singles title

BEAVERTON — Roseburg sophomore Alex Totoian is a state champion.

The Class 6A boys state tennis championships wrapped up with Totoian knocking off Cayden Laughton, a sophomore from Linclon and the defending state champ, 6-3, 6-4 on Saturday at the Babette Horenstein Tennis Center.

This was Totoian’s first time at the state championship tournament. He missed out during his freshman season as he had other tennis commitments outside of the high school season. The sophomore was seeded fifth in the bracket and beat the fourth, second and first seeds on his way to the first individual state championship for Roseburg since 1969.

The Indians finished tied for second as a team. Along with Totoian, Ramin Abrahime and the doubles team of Alex Hoddle and Alex Howard all scored points for Roseburg. Lincoln won the team title.
