College Track & Field: Umpqua athletes perform well in Southern Region championships

WINCHESTER — The Umpqua Riverhawks track and field program hosted the Southern Region championships Saturday and Sunday at its newly renovated facility.
The Umpqua women placed first in four of 19 events and finished second in the team standings, while the UCC men won 5-of-19 events and placed third in the team standings.
Here’s a rundown of event winners for the Riverhawks:
- Keiron Desouza won the men’s 100 (10.75) and 200 (21.78) for the Riverhawks.
- Viggo Beck won the men’s 3,000 meter steeplechase (10:00.63) and recorded the second-best time in program history.
- Sutherlin High School graduate Rylan Bryant won the discus (44.87m).
- O’Brien Bowen won the triple jump (14.20m).
- Analise Miller took home first in the 800 (2:24.41) and 1500 (4:54.39).
- Aunika Miller won the 5000 (19:15.94).
- Adara Griffith took first in the long jump (5.30m).
Up next will be the NWAC Track and Field championships next week at Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham.
