Prep Basketball: Oakland boys and girls secure trophies at state

PENDLETON — The Oakland Oakers wrapped up the high school basketball season with trophies for both the boys and girls at the Class 2A state tournament on Saturday.
The Oakland boys earned a third place trophy after defeating Portland Christian 57-51 at the Pendleton Convention Center. Andy McCurdy had 20 points to lead the Oakers.
Oakland (24-6) wound up in the third place game after losing 59-43 against top-seed Trinity Lutheran in the 2A state semifinals on Friday. The Oakers played in the third place game for the third consecutive season, winning for the second straight year.
McCurdy a senior, was selected to the All-Tournament first team. Junior Jaxson Clark was selected to the second team.
The Oakland girls finished sixth at the 2A state tournament after a 52-43 loss to Weston-McEwen at the Pendleton Convention Center.
Sahara Kramer had a game-high 17 points to lead the Oakers. Kramer, a junior, was selected to the All-Tournament first team.
The trophy is the first for the Oakland girls since the Oakers finished sixth at state during the 2018 season.
