Prep Boys Basketball: Second half slump busts Roseburg in 89-48 loss to South Medford

Despite a competitive first half, the Roseburg boys basketball team faded after the break in an 89-48 loss against the first-place South Medford Panthers in a Southwest Conference game Tuesday night at Robertson Memorial Gymnasium.

The Indians led a majority of the first quarter behind explosive play from Gannon Egbert. The junior scored 9 of his 11 points in the opening period.

South Medford (18-6, 10-1 SWC) got hot down the stretch and pulled ahead 25-14 going to the second period.

Roseburg (0-22, 0-10) rallied to within three points in the second quarter, but again the Panthers finished the quarter strong and took a 47-34 lead into halftime.

South Medford went on a 10-0 run to begin the second half and continued to pull away through the second half by outscoring the Indians 42-14 after the break.

Harrison Scott sank four 3-point shots and led Roseburg with a game-high 18 points.

Quinton Ritche and Jed Johnson led six South Medford players in double figures with 16 points each.

Roseburg will visit Sheldon at 5:15 p.m. Friday in Eugene.
