UCC men dump LBCC, but Riverhawks stumble in women’s game

ALBANY — The Umpqua Community College men’s basketball team pulled away in the second half for an 84-69 win against Linn-Benton in a NWAC South Region matchup Wednesday night.
Mikey Lloyd scored 15 of his game-high 24 points after the break to help the Riverhawks stretch a two-point lead to as much as 15 points. Caden Hunter added 21 points and 10 rebounds off the bench for Umpqua (21-3, 9-2 South Region).
The No. 4 Riverhawks now hold a 1.5 game lead over No. 6 Clark for first place in the South Region with five league games left to play.
The Umpqua women saw their game against Linn-Benton slip away in the fourth quarter as the Roadrunners finished strong for a 75-68 victory Wednesday night.
No. 6 UCC rallied to tie the game at the end of the third quarter and led 60-55 with 6:46 left to play in the fourth quarter, but the Roadrunners ended the game on a 20-8 run to pull off the upset.
Rebekah Beltran scored 20 points to lead Umpqua (17-7, 8-3 South Region).
The Umpqua men and women will host the Chemeketa Storm for South Region games on Saturday.
