Prep Boys Basketball: Reynolds explodes for 106-73 win over Roseburg boys
Offense was the name of the game Friday afternoon at Robertson Memorial Gymnasium.
The Roseburg and Reynolds boys basketball teams both scored season-highs in a nonconference game, but it was the Raiders that had the hotter hand in a 106-73 victory.
Freshman Jordan Smith scored 53 points to lead the Raiders. He drained seven 3-point field goals and went 6-for-8 at the free throw line.
“That kid (Jordan Smith) is a heck of a ball player,” Roseburg coach Brett Nixon said.
Roseburg’s Harrison Scott also had a hot night with seven made 3-point attempts. The senior notched a career-high 31 points to lead the Indians in the loss.
Reynolds (6-4) pounced on Roseburg (0-11) from the get-go. The Raiders built a 31-18 lead in the first quarter. The lead continued to grow throughout the game, reaching as much as 34 points in the fourth quarter.
While Roseburg was able to run up the scoreboard, defense was top of mind for Nixon in the postgame.
“We can’t get boat-raced like that up and down. You’re not going to win any games if you give up 106 points, that’s for sure. I’m looking at probably 30 to 40 of that is just them running the floor, beating us down the floor. We just can’t have it,” Nixon said.
Jaelyn Smith, Jordan’s older brother, scored 18 points. Senior Eddie Szabatin added 13 for the Raiders and Josiah Jenkins chipped in 10.
Roseburg’s Preston Sprague had 16 points for the Tribe, while Jaden Kemmerle made a pair of 3-pointers to contribute 12.
Roseburg will visit North Eugene at 7 p.m. on Tuesday for its final nonconference game of the season.
