Umpqua women bounce-back for 89-38 win over Shoreline
LONGVIEW, Wash. — The Umpqua Community College women’s basketball team bounced back in a major way with an 89-38 win over Shoreline on Tuesday at the Lower Columbia Holiday Classic.
One day after losing by 38 points to Walla Walla, the Riverhawks dominated Shoreline from the get-go. Umpqua (8-4) built a 16-point lead after the first quarter and never trailed the Dolphins.
UCC had five players finish in double-figures. Giselle Muffett and Marlee Reupena had 17 points each to lead the way. Kaelyn Shoemaker and Syndee Muntifering both had double-doubles. Shoemaker tallied 13 points and 18 rebounds, while Muntifering had 12 points and 10 boards.
The Riverhawks dominated the glass and the paint. UCC held a 49-23 advantage on the boards and scored more than half its points in the paint (48).
Shoreline (0-12) was led by Taira Samiano with 18 points.
The UCC women finish the Lower Columbia Holiday Classic against Peninsula at 10 a.m. Wednesday.
