Roseburg wrestling takes 3rd, locals land on the podium
PORTLAND — The Roseburg Indians finished third in the Class 6A team standings after having six wrestlers place in the OSAA state championship wrestling tournament on Saturday at Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
Twin brothers Drew and Carter Dawson led the way with runner-up finishes that helped the Indians compile 145.5 points. Newberg claimed the team title with 229.5 points and West Linn was second with 202.5 points. Roseburg placed third for a second consecutive season.
Drew Dawson lost by a 9-4 decision against Darion Johnson of West Linn in the 113 pound championship. Drew ended the high school season with a 31-8 record.
Carter Dawson lost by a major decision (9-1) against Jorge De La Rosa from Forest Grove in the 120 pound title bout. Carter ended the season with an 18-4 record.
Jack Olsen won the 120 pound third place match (maj. dec., 11-3) over Elijah Borrayo of Lincoln. The Indians also had wrestlers finish fourth, fifth and sixth.
Overall there were 24 local boys and girls that placed at the wrestling state championships. Below is a rundown of all the local placers.
