Local teams advance to basketball state championship tournaments

The Oakland, North Douglas and Days Creek boys have all advanced to the OSAA state championship tournaments after playoff victories on last week. The North Douglas girls are also moving on to the state tournament after a win in the second round of the Class 1A playoffs on Saturday.

The Oakland boys defeated Santiam 51-31 on Saturday in the Nut House. The 3-seeded Oakers will face 6-seed Stanfield in the Class 2A quarterfinals at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday at the Pendleton Convention Center in Pendleton, Oregon. The tournament will run through Saturday, March 8 when trophies will be awarded for first through sixth place.

The North Douglas and Days Creek boys are headed to Baker City, Oregon for the Class 1A tournament at Baker High School. No. 5 seed North Douglas beat Rogue Valley Adventist Academy 75-56 on Friday in Drain. The Warriors will face 4-seed Sherman in the quarterfinals at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday.

No. 10 Days Creek pulled a 73-63 upset over No. 7 Crosspoint Christian on Saturday and the Wolves will play in the tournament for the first time since 2019. Days Creek takes on No. 2 Crane in the quarterfinals at 8:15 p.m. on Thursday.

The North Douglas girls scored a 55-31 win over Rogue Valley Adventist Academy on Saturday to advance to the Class 1A state tournament in Baker City. The 6-seeded Warriors will go up against 3-seed Crane in the quarterfinals at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Baker High School.
