Roseburg wrestling tops South Medford in top 10 dual
The Roseburg High School wrestling team held off South Medford in a top 10 battle on senior night Wednesday at Robertson Memorial Gymnasium. The No. 5 Indians defeated the No. 7 Panthers 48-34.
The Panthers struck first when junior Vaughn Graff pinned freshman Granite Eggleson in under a minute at 106 pounds. The Indians rallied and built a 36-6 advantage thanks to six consecutive wins by fall for Drew (113) and Carter (120) Dawson, Jack Olsen (126), Roman Leaton (132), Elias Rush (138) and Izak Hutchinson (144).
Nathan Padilla got a critical pin for Roseburg at 157 pounds. The sophomore earned six points by taking down junior Josh Gomez in 3 minutes, 43 seconds and put the dual out of reach for the Panthers. Tyler Rietmann (165) won by fall to help the Indians shut the door, but the Panthers rallied with four consecutive pins to finish the dual and make the score respectable. South Medford’s final four wrestlers are all ranked in the top 10 statewide.
The Roseburg JV team won its dual 60-17 against the Panthers. The Roseburg girls lost 36-6.
Up next, the Roseburg Indians will compete in the Reser’s Tournament of Champions Friday and Saturday at Sherwood High School.
