Roseburg boys fall 87-66 to hot-shooting North Eugene

The North Eugene Highlanders had too much firepower for the Roseburg boys basketball team in a nonconference game Tuesday at Robertson Memorial Gymnasium.

The Highlanders sank nine 3-point shots and had three players in double figures to beat the Indians 87-66. The loss wrapped-up nonconference play for Roseburg, which will begin its Southwest Conference schedule at 6:45 p.m. Friday against Willamette.

Jayden Robinson made five 3-pointers to lead North Eugene (7-5) with 31 points. Damon Keith added 23 points and Jordan Gray chipped in 12.

The victory ended a four-game losing streak for the Highlanders.

Roseburg (3-9) jumped out to a lead in the first quarter with back-to-back buckets from Kaden Luther and Landon Fanugao. The pair combined for all 11 points scored by the Tribe in the first eight minutes.

North Eugene woke up midway through the period and finished on a 14-2 run to pull ahead 21-11 going to the second period.

The Indians kept within striking distance through much of the second quarter, but everytime they made a push the Highlanders had an answer. Robinson scored 19 of his 31 points in the first half to propel North Eugene to a 45-27 lead at the break. The lead ballooned to more than 20 points through much of the second half.

Luther finished with 18 points to lead the Indians and Owen Bentea added 17.
