Aasen, Miller lead Roseburg girls to 49-29 win over Reynolds

The Roseburg girls basketball team dispatched the Reynolds Raiders 49-29 in a nonleague game Friday night at Robertson Memorial Gymnasium.

Despite notching their third victory by 20 or more points, head coach Chad Smith felt the Indians left plenty to be desired after the game.

“That was a tough win. And you’d never think you would say that, but that’s what that was. That was a tough win. We did not execute. We did not share the basketball like we’ve done all year. There was a lot of one-on-one stuff and it showed.”

There were stretches of sloppy play, including the opening stanza to the ballgame. Neither team managed to score for nearly three minutes to start the contest. Roseburg’s Leighton Osborn got the scoring started with a baseline drive and finish from underneath the hoop.

Roseburg (4-6) stretched the lead to double figures in the second quarter and led by as many as 24 points in the second half.

Reynolds (1-7) struggled to keep up with the Indians and found itself commiting a larger number of violations. The Raiders were whistled for 20 fouls, while Roseburg was dinged for just eight.

Senior Arlie Aasen led the Indians with 14 points and Elleen Miller added 13. Miller hit the only 3-point field goal of the game for the Tribe.

Nara Cordway lead all scorers with 18 points. The Reynolds senior made three 3-pointers and went 3-for-3 at the free throw line. Cordway scored 14 of the Raiders’ 16 points in the second half.

Roseburg will visit North Eugene on Tuesday for its final nonleague game of the regular season. The contest is scheduled to begin at 6:45 p.m.
