Corvallis jumps on Roseburg boys for 83-43 nonconference win

CORVALLIS — The Roseburg boys basketball team was outscored by 22 points in the third quarter of a nonconference game against the Corvallis Spartans and the Indians suffered their worst loss of the year in an 83-43 defeat Tuesday.

Asher Smith scored 12 of his team-high 21 points in the third period to lead the Spartans (1-2) in their first win of the season. The senior forward made three of Corvallis’ eight 3-point goals.

Owen Bentea scored seven of his game-high 26 points in the first quarter for Roseburg (1-5). The senior made four of Roseburg’s five 3-pointers and went 4-of-7 at the free throw line. Jaron Leeworthy, Landon Fanugao and Kaden Luther all added four points each for the Indians. Fanugao contributed seven rebounds.

Roseburg had 17 turnovers in the game, while Corvallis was forced into just 10.

The Indians will next face Oregon City on the first day of play in the Abby’s Pizza Holiday Classic starting Friday in Medford.
