Seniors lead Roseburg to 42-7 win over Eagle Point

It was a fitting game plan for the Roseburg Indians’ football team on senior night.
Four seniors found the end zone as Roseburg pulled away for a 42-7 win over Eagle Point in a Special District 4 contest Friday at Finlay Field.
“I’m incredibly proud of our boys. I’m incredibly proud of our families, our fans, our whole community. This was a real team win,” Roseburg coach Matt Watson said.
Landon Simpson led the way with three rushing scores, while fellow seniors Tyler Rietmann, Kaden Austin and Carson Yraguen also took runs across the goal line.
Roseburg (4-4, 3-4 SD4) scored on its first four drives. Rietmann capped off an 11-play drive with a 7-yard run to give the Indians a 6-0 advantage.
Simpson barreled in from 2 yards out midway through the period and tacked on a two-point conversion to put the Tribe ahead 14-0.
Yraguen snuck in on a 4-yard rush to begin the second quarter and helped the Indians pull ahead 21-0.
Eagle Point (1-7, 1-6) broke the shutout with a 7-play drive in the second period. Receiver Thomas Wippel served as a wildcat quarterback and broke free for a 33-yard winding run that cut the deficit to 21-7.
It didn’t take the Indians long to respond. On the first play of the next drive, Austin took a pitch going left, spun out of one tackle and cut all the way back to the right before finding a seam and sprinting past the defense for a 64-yard touchdown.
Simpson added two short-yardage scores in the second half to eventually give the Indians a running clock for a second consecutive week.
Austin led the Indians with 111 yards on the ground. Yraguen had 59 rushing yards, Rietmann 46, Drea Burwell 36 and Simpson 22.
Quarterback Corey Kimball was 5-for-5 through the air for 98 yards. Dane St. Clair caught two passes for 10 yards. Senior Byron Irvin had 19 receiving yards on one catch to lead the Indians.
Roseburg outgained Eagle Point 387 yards to 151. Senior Peyton Smith tallied 77 yards on 17 carries to lead the Eagles in offensive production.
The Indians will wrap up the regular season with a road trip to Springfield on Friday. Roseburg squares off with the Millers at 7 p.m. at Silke Field.
“Next week is going to be an emotional week, just like this was an emotional week,” Watson said. “We really want to finish with a winning record. That’s really important to us.”
