Sutherlin girls net league-opening win with last second goal
The Sutherlin girls soccer team nailed the game-winner with only a minute left to play and scored a 2-1 win over Coquille/Myrtle Point in the league opener for the Bulldogs on Wednesday at Coquille.
Madison Huntley drilled home the go-ahead goal in the second half. Alana Houck got Sutherlin on the board with a quick goal in the first half that put the Bulldogs ahead 1-0.
Coquille/Myrtle Point tied the game with a goal late in the second half.
Sutherlin coach Miguel Carrillo noted that “Keely Guthrie and Kristine Gandy did a tremendous job defending the goal.”
The win was the first of the season for Sutherlin. The Bulldogs will face Douglas on Thursday in another league matchup.
