Roseburg volleyball notches first win in SWC opener against Grants Pass

The Roseburg volleyball team started out Southwest Conference play with a thrilling five-set winner over the Grants Pass Lady Cavers on Tuesday at Robertson Memorial Gymnasium.
The Indians fought their way back into the match after dropping the opening set 25-19. Roseburg pulled ahead late in Game 2 for a 25-19 victory. The final three sets went to extra points, with Roseburg claiming a 16-14 win in the decisive final set.
Senior Arlie Aasen highlighted the takeaway from the win for Roseburg.
“I think from this game we learned that we need to be on top at the start because it’s kind of hard to get out of a hole that we dig ourselves when we get behind. If we stay out of a hole, we’re usually good,” Aasen said.
Coach Kelly Woodley said Aasen was the MVP of the match. The senior finished with 14 kills. Bella Nielsen had a team-high 15 kills and Grace Ipsen had 50 assists.
The Roseburg volleyball team will host North Medford for a Southwest Conference match at 6:45 p.m. Thursday.
