The Roseburg High School volleyball team saw its season begin with a 3-1 loss against Crater on Tuesday at Robertson Memorial Gymnasium.

Set scores were 25-19, 25-20, 17-25, 25-19.

First-year head coach Kelly Woodley said “the way it started was a little slow, but they came in pretty strong after that. They definitely held their own against a really solid team.”

The Indians bring back an experienced group and were led by seniors Shaylee Swartzendruber and Masyn Tabor. Swartzendruber had 10 kills in the match and Tabor made 12 digs.

Newcomers junior Daisie Gargurevich and sophomore Bella Nielsen also made big contributions in the match. Nielsen led the Indians with 12 kills.

Roseburg returns to action on Saturday with a trip to Central Oregon to face the Bend Lava Bears in a nonleague match.
