Local teams start season ranked in OSAA preseason coaches polls

As high school sports seasons start to get underway, the OSAA has released preseason coaches polls for the fall sports. These rankings do not have any impact on postseason berths or power rankings, but are meant as discussion topics for fans.

Here is a snapshot of Umpqua Basin teams that are starting the season ranked in the coaches polls.

The Roseburg girls received votes, but were just outside the top 10 in the Class 6A volleyball coaches poll. The Indians were one of four Southwest Conference teams to get recognized to start the year.

The North Douglas volleyball team received one first place vote and landed fourth in the Class 1A poll. Umpqua Valley Christian starts the season sixth.

The Sutherlin girls soccer team is 10th to start the season in the 3A/2A/1A classification, while the Umpqua Valley Christian boys were just outside the top 10 with 12 points in the voting.

The South Umpqua Lancers football team is sixth in the Class 3A preseason poll. Oakland received five first place votes and is second in the Class 2A poll. Camas Valley is third and North Douglas fifth in the Class 1A 8-man rankings. Elkton landed fifth in the Class 1A 6-man preseason vote.
