Lancers highlighted in 3A softball All-State honors

After a run to the program’s first state championship, South Umpqua softball coach JP Kelley was named the Class 3A Coach of the Year.

Kelley guided the Lancers to a 27-3 record and a share of the Far West League title this spring. His South Umpqua team beat top-seed Scio 9-1 in the 3A state championship game on May 31 at Jane Sanders Stadium in Eugene.

The Lancers also landed four players on the All-State first team.

Reaghan Gilbert was selected as a pitcher, Ashlyn Vey in the outfield and Kaydence Norton and Haley Twyman in the infield.

Sutherlin outfielder Josie Vermillion also earned first team honors.

Douglas senior Brooklynn Rondeau earned second team honors.

Harlee Agee and Mariah Walker of Douglas both earned third team honors along with South Umpqua’s Danika Richardson.

Glide’s Ella Wright received Honorable Mention recognition.

Burns/Crane senior Ayla Davies was selected as the 3A Pitcher of the Year. Scio junior Myleigh Cooper was the 3A Player of the Year.
