Track & Field — Sutherlin’s Bryant wins district title
SISTERS — The Sutherlin and Glide track and field programs had three athletes punch their tickets for the Class 3A state championship meet on Day 1 of the Class 3A Special District 4 championships on Thursday at Sisters High School.
Sutherlin’s Rylan Bryant won a district title in shot put with a winning distance of 46 feet, 6.25 inches. The junior has qualified for the state championship meet for the first time. He’ll also compete in discus and javelin at the district meet on Friday.
Fellow Bulldog Paige Edmonson qualified for state with a second place finish in the long jump. The senior had her best leap of the season at 16 feet, 1.5 inches and will compete in the long jump at state for a third time next week.
Glide’s Kara Anderson took second in the discus to clinch her first berth in the state meet. The freshman flew by her previous personal record in the discus with a toss of 99 feet, 2 inches.
The Special District 4 championship meet continues on Friday at Sisters High School.
