Roseburg’s Johnson, Bachmeier qualify for state track & field meet
The Roseburg track and field team had a couple of state qualifiers on Day 1 of the Southwest Conference track and field championships at Finlay Field Wednesday.
Timothy Johnson and Grace Bachmeier both qualified for state after finishing second in their respective events.
Johnson, a senior for the Indians, placed second in the 3,000 meter race with a time of 8 minutes, 39.43 seconds. It was a season-best time for Johnson, who was the district champion last year and finished 9th at the state meet as a junior.
Roseburg junior Grace Bachmeier placed second in the girls pole vault with a mark of 8 feet, 6.25 inches. She will make her first appearance at the state meet next week.
The Roseburg girls are in third place after the first day of competition, while the boys are in fifth. The district championships continue Saturday at RHS.
