Roseburg’s Drew Dawson places 6th at US Open in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS — Roseburg High School wrestler Drew Dawson finished sixth in the US Open U17 Greco Roman tournament at the South Point Hotel Casino & Spa in Las Vegas, Nev.

Dawson reached the quarterfinals of the 48 kilogram bracket before suffering a loss. The sophomore was the 7-seed in the bracket and fell to 2-seed Hayden Schwab by technical fall. Dawson rebounded by winning his next two matches but fell in the consolation semifinals and wrestled 6-seed Eli Herring in the 5th place bout.

Dawson lost to Herring by technical fall to place sixth.

Fellow Roseburg wrestlers Carter Dawson, Drew’s twin brother, and Daniel Patrick hit the mats as well.

Carter Dawson went 0-2 in the 51kg bracket. Patrick earned a win in his first consolation match in the 80kg bracket, but lost by fall to finish his time with a 1-2 record.

The trio of local wrestlers will stay in Las Vegas to compete in the freestyle competition over the weekend.
