Roseburg baseball struggles with Sheldon’s Miller in 6-1 loss

EUGENE — Sheldon’s Nolan Miller has Roseburg’s number.

St. Clair

The senior left-hander continued his dominance against the Roseburg High School baseball team with a complete-game 6-1 victory on Tuesday at Sheldon High School.

Miller allowed just four hits and one run over seven innings of work with eight strikeouts as he pitched the Irish to their first Southwest Conference win of the year.

Dating back to last season, Miller has allowed just one run in three starts against Roseburg. The returning first-team all-conference selection has 29 strikeouts in 21 innings pitched against the Indians.

Dane St. Clair saw the most success against Miller, going 2-for-3 at the plate. His solo home run in the sixth provided Roseburg’s only run of the game.

Brayton Loomis, a late defensive replacement for Roseburg, had a double in his only at-bat to leadoff the seventh inning. He was left stranded there as Miller struck out the side to end the game.

Sheldon broke through against Roseburg starter Camden Hartsell in the third. A double by Miller put runners on second and third and a balk call gave the Irish a 1-0 lead. Ty Burnham plated another run with a groundout.

The Irish added to their 2-0 lead with another pair of runs in the fourth inning on a Jaxon Detzler single. Sheldon capped its scoring with a two-run home run in the sixth off the bat of Brady Barry.

Roseburg fell a full game behind conference-leader Willamette. The Indians will host the Wolverines for a doubleheader on Saturday at Bill Gray Legion Stadium at Champion Car Wash Field. Game 1 is slated to start at noon.
