Roseburg tops South Eugene 5-1 at Springfield Tournament behind St. Clair’s complete game

SPRINGFIELD — Dane St. Clair pitched a complete game and the Roseburg Indians baseball team started spring break with a 5-1 win over South Eugene in the Springfield Tournament on Monday at the Hamlin Sports Complex.

St. Claire scattered five hits over seven innings, allowing one unearned run while striking out six and walking four. The junior earned his first win of the season.

Roseburg’s lineup back-up St. Clair with six hits, including a pair of doubles by Jake Johnson and Paxton Burke. The Indians also drew eight walks and two hit batters.

Johnson and Burke both hit their two-baggers in the first inning off South Eugene starter Gavin Bush. Burke had Roseburg’s first hit and Johnson drove him in for a 1-0 lead two batters later.

Roseburg (4-3) added runs on a single by Brevin Harrison and a groundout by Camden Hartsell for a 3-0 lead after one inning.

Johnson added another RBI with a bases-loaded walk in the fourth and the Tribe capped its scoring in the sixth on a single by Harrison.

South Eugene (2-4) recorded its lone run on a single by Gabe Garcia in the fourth.

Roseburg will face Class 3A Elmira in its next game from the Springfield Tournament at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
