The high school spring sports season officially begins March 11, the first day that competitions are allowed for baseball, softball, track and field, golf, tennis and lacrosse.
As the season gets underway, Roseburg High School will commemorate its first season on its new softball turf field at the high school with a ceremony on March 12.
The field is located behind the Finlay Field grandstands on the RHS campus at 618 West Finlay Avenue. Construstion on the field began in August last year.
Previously, the Roseburg softball team has used the natural surface field located at Stewart Park next to the YMCA of Douglas County.
“This field is about possibilities,” said Roseburg Superintendent Jared Cordon. “Look at what can be achieved when our community works together to support students. The new softball field will serve students and our community for generations to come, offering a beautiful space for athletics and other outdoor activities.”
A ceremony to celebrate the new field will be held from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on March 12 and will feature free food and a chance to get a look at the new field up-close.
The Roseburg softball team will have its first home game on March 13 against Sunset at 4:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on The Score 92.3 FM and 1490 AM with a video simulcast available on HERE.
