The high school basketball season wrapped up on Saturday for Douglas County teams and a group of local schools celebrated the season with a state trophy.

In Baker City, the North Douglas girls reached the Class 1A state championship game on Saturday for the first time since 2016. The Warriors squared off with Crane — the 2023 runner-up — and held things close through the first half, only to run out of gas after intermission in a 59-39 loss to the Mustangs.

North Douglas (27-3) trailed 27-24 at halftime, but Crane (29-0) finished off an undefeated season by out-scoring the Warriors 32-15 in the second half.

Crane’s Kaitlyn Siegner scored 20 of her game-high 29 points in the second half, powering the Mustangs to the run-away victory. The freshman also tallied 16 rebounds.

Brooke McHaffie led the Warriors with 16 points. Brooklyn Cyr added 11 points and Maddy Vaughn led North Douglas with 10 rebounds.

Three other Douglas County teams earned a fifth place trophy on the season’s final day.

The Sutherlin Bulldogs fell just shy of reaching the Class 3A state title game and faced Vale in the third place game on Saturday in Coos Bay.

A slow start to the game was the beginning of a tough scoring night for the Bulldogs. Vale (25-3) led by 15 points after the first quarter and pulled away in the second half for a 49-26 victory. The Vikings took the third place trophy and Sutherlin (25-4) finished in fifth.

Kelsey Stepleton led Vale with 14 points. Addy Clark led Sutherlin with 10 points.

The Oakland boys had a strong start in the Class 2A third place game on Satruday in Pendleton, but a sluggish second and third quarter put the Oakers in catch-up mode against Mannahouse Academy.

The Lions led by as much as 20 points in the fourth quarter and held off Oakland’s comeback efforts for a 56-43 win and a third place trophy. The Oakers finished fifth at state.

Gabe Williamson scored 11 points to lead Oakland (27-2). Austin Snyder led three players in double-figures for Mannahouse Academy (23-7) with 16 points.

The North Douglas boys faced Trinity Lutheran in the Class 1A third place game. The Warriors lost to the Saints 65-49 to finish with the fifth place trophy.

The Saints led most of the way, but pulled away in the final period to put the game out of reach for North Douglas (24-6).

Andrew Imhoff had 25 points and 13 rebounds to lead Trinity Lutheran (24-5). Jayden Montgomery scored 15 points to lead North Douglas.
