BAKER CITY — The North Douglas boys basketball team is moving on to the semifinals of the Class 1A state playoffs for a second consecutive season.
The Warriors won the rubber match against rival Elkton, 56-37 Wednesday night in a quarterfinal game played at Baker High School.
North Douglas will face Nixyaawii in the semifinals on Friday at 1:45 p.m. The Eagles beat Lost River 77-62 on Wednesday to advance in the winner’s bracket.
Elkton squares off with Lost River Thursday at 10:45 a.m. in an elimination game. The winner advances to the fourth place game on Saturday.
North Douglas (24-5) jumped out to a big lead in the first quarter, leading 16-4 after the first eight minutes of play. Elkton (19-7) cut the deficit to just three by halftime and rallied to briefly take a four-point lead in the second half.
The Warriors finished the game strong by out scoring Elkton 17-4 in the fourth quarter.
North Douglas junior Jayden Montgomery scored 7 of his game-high 15 points in the pivitol third quarter. Wyatt Reed added 13 points and 8 rebounds. Hunter Vaughn contributed 11 points and 10 steals for the Warriors.
Cael Boe led Elkton with 12 points and 14 rebounds. Case Boe and Bodee Block chipped in 10 points each.
