The Umpqua Community College women’s basketball team got back in the win column with an 83-69 victory against the Southwestern Oregon Lakers on Wednesday in Winchester.
The triumph snapped a two-game losing streak for the Riverhawks.
Umpqua (21-4, 9-3 South Region) had to overcome a first quarter deficit, but managed to do so by outscoring SWOCC 27-9 in the second period. The big lead was enough to keep the Riverhawks ahead for good.
Emma Alono and Audrey Miller both netted 20 points for the Riverhawks.
In the nightcap, the Umpqua men suffered a 79-72 loss to the Lakers.
After going into halftime tied, Southwestern Oregon started the second half on a 13-2 run that Umpqua (16-9, 7-5 South Region) was unable to overcome.
Will Harris and Coby Jiminez both had 14 points for UCC in the loss. The Riverhawks dropped to fourth place in the South Region standings.
The Umpqua men and women continue the regular season on Saturday at Mt. Hood in Gresham.
