EUGENE — The No. 3-ranked Lane women’s basketball team got a measure of revenge with a 92-84 overtime upset against the top-ranked Umpqua Riverhawks on Wednesday at Lane Community College.
The loss drops Umpqua (20-3, 8-2 South Region) a half game behind Lane (21-2, 9-2) for first place in the South Region.
Former Douglas High School standout Kierra Bennett hit a 3-pointer for UCC with 6 seconds remaining in regulation to send the game to overtime. The Riverhawks had overcome a 10-point deficit early in the period to keep the game going.
In the extra session, the Titans finished the game strong going 7-for-8 at the free throw line in the final two minutes to hold off the Riverhawks.
UCC’s Brooklyn Fely had a game-high 38 points to go along with 17 rebounds and 7 blocked shots. Former Sutherlin High School standout Micah Wicks led Lane with 22 points, 7 assists and 7 rebounds.
The Umpqua men finished off the night in Eugene with a 76-71 victory over the Lane Titans. The Riverhawks trailed briefly in the second half, but went on a 9-0 run to retake the lead for good.
All five starters played heavy minutes for Umpqua (15-8, 6-4 South Region) and finished in double figures, led by Will Harris with 19 points.
Lane (10-13, 5-6) was led by Jevon Blackmore with 18 points.
The Umpqua Riverhawks will continue the season on Saturday at home against the Clackamas Cougars. The women tipoff at 2 p.m. and the men begin at 4 p.m.
