OREGON CITY — The No. 2-ranked Umpqua women’s basketball team overcame a sluggish start against No. 8 Clackamas in a South Region matchup on Monday. The Riverhawks trailed 22-7 at the end of the first quarter, but UCC rallied to pull off a 77-71 victory over the Cougars at Clackamas Community College.

The win keeps the Umpqua women (17-1, 5-0 South Region) undefeated in league games and tied with Chemeketa for first in the league standings.

Amaya Afatasi scored a game-high 24 points to lead the Riverhawks and added seven assists. Brooklyn Fely chipped in 10 points and nine rebounds.

The Umpqua men were able to ride a large first half advantage to an 89-72 win over Clackamas.

UCC led wire-to-wire and pulled ahead by as much as 23 points in the first half. The Cougars outscored the Riverhawks in the second half but never managed to get within single digits.

Creighton Hansen had 22 points and 9 rebounds to guide Umpqua (12-6, 3-2 South Region). Will Harris made three 3-pointers and added 16 points.

The Umpqua men and women will next host the Chemeketa Storm on Wednesday.
