MEDFORD — The Roseburg boys basketball team started slowly against North Medford in a Southwest Conference game Tuesday night at North Medford High School, but a big second quarter propelled the Indians to a 68-55 win over the Black Tornado.

Sophomore Traeger Healy sank four 3-point shots in the first quarter for North Medford (5-11, 0-3 SWC), helping push the Black Tornado to a 7-point lead early on in the matchup.

The Indians bounced-back to take a 19-16 lead by the end of the first period and Roseburg (8-5, 1-1) never trailed in the contest again.

Roseburg started the second quarter on a 9-0 run and led North 33-18 late into the period. The Tornados rallied over the final 1:18 of the first half for a 7-0 run, cutting the halftime deficit to 33-25.

North Medford rallied to within one score in the third quarter, but failed to overtake the Indians. Roseburg put the game away in the final period hitting a pair of 3-pointers and sinking 7-of-10 from the free throw line.

Owen Bentea led four Roseburg players in double figures with 16 point. The junior guard hit three 3-point field goals.

Julian Lopez also made three shots from long range and finished with 15 points. Asher Vredenburg contributed 15 and Mykah Mendoza chipped in 12 for the Indians.

North Medford’s Houston Klug led all scorers with 18 points. He was 6-for-7 from the free throw line. Easton Curtis made three shots from behind the arc and added 15 for the Black Tornado. Healy finished with 12 points, all coming on 3-pointers in the first quarter.

Roseburg will next host the Willamette Wolverines on Friday at 7 p.m.
