PHILOMATH — The Roseburg boys basketball team suffered a 74-67 non-league road loss against No. 6-ranked Philomath on Friday night at Philomath High School.

Seniors Preston Kramer and Jacob Peters combined for 59 points to lead the Class 4A Warriors and out-pace Roseburg’s Jullian Lopez and Mykah Mendoza, who combined for 47 points.

“We got ourselves in a hole early and then found ourselves in a lot of foul trouble,” Roseburg coach Jordan Humphreys said. The Indians had three players foul out of the game.

Class 6A Roseburg (7-5 overall) fell behind 35-20 midway through the second quarter, but cut the deficit to 36-27 by halftime.

Lopez scored 11 of his career-high 24 points in the third quarter to help Roseburg close the gap and Mendoza sank a 3-pointer to give the Indians a 50-48 lead with 1:22 left to play in the period. Mendoza finished with 23 points.

Philomath (10-3) regained control of the match-up in the fourth quarter behind 10 points from Kramer, who tallied a game-high 39 points.

The game was a late addition to Roseburg’s schedule and Humphreys said he wanted to utilize the open date by facing competition that will challenge his team.

“We’re trying to find teams that compete hard and give us different looks and help us to grow and get better. Hopefully this game will do that,” Humphreys said.

Roseburg will visit North Medford for a Southwest Conference game on Tuesday. Tipoff is set for 6:45 p.m.
