CENTRAL POINT — The Roseburg High School soccer teams finally got a chance to begin their 2023 campaigns on Wednesday. After days of postponements due to poor air quality in Southern Oregon, the Indians traveled to Crater High School for their season openers.

The RHS girls soccer team got the season underway with a 4-2 win against the Comets. It was the first win under new head coach Janelle Newton and the first win for the program since the 2021 season. Junior Bridget Brooksby scored a pair of goals in the win and Kali Richards netted the go-ahead goal late in the match to break a 2-2 tie.

The Roseburg boys led 2-0 at halftime against Crater, but couldn’t keep the lead in a 2-2 draw. Scoring goals for the Tribe were junior Alex Villanueva and freshman Aaron Familio.

Coming up next for the Tribe, the girls host South Medford on Tuesday for their Southwest Conference opener, while the boys are on the road against the Panthers.
