All three Douglas County wrestlers in Fargo, North Dakota for the 16U and Junior freestyle nationals advanced to Day 2 of the competition. 

Gage Singleton from Roseburg High School went 2-0 on the first day of the Junior freestyle nationals. Singleton, competing at 120 pounds, won by fall (3:28) in his first match and by technical fall (12-5) in his second. Singleton advanced to the championship Round of 16 on Tuesday morning with a 6-1 decision against Donny Pigoni from Illinois. The victory puts Singleton one win away from reaching All-American status. 

Glide High School’s Drew Dawson needed just one win to advance to the Round of 32 in the 16U freestyle nationals on Monday. He had a first round bye at 100 pounds and then won by technical fall (10-0) in the second round. Things turned for Drew Dawson on Tuesday, as he was knocked out of the competition with a pair of losses decided by criteria.

Drew Dawson finished tied 10-10 with Braedyn Tammarine of Ohio in the Round of 32, but lost on the tiebreaker. He then lost on a tiebreaker again in the consolation Round of 32 to be eliminated from the tournament. 

Drew’s twin brother Carter went 2-1 on the first day of competition. After winning by technical fall (10-0) in the opening round at 106 pounds, Carter Dawson lost by technical fall (12-2) in the second round. He bounced back to win by technical fall (10-0) in the consolation Round of 64.

Carter Dawson kept his tournament going with a pair of wins on Tuesday morning. He earned a 10-4 decision in his first match of the day and a 9-3 decision in his second. Carter Dawson has advanced to the consolation Round of 16 and will face Brett Swenson from Minnesota.
