The Major League Baseball Draft concluded on Tuesday with a second former Umpqua Riverhawk selected by a big league franchise.

After Jace Stoffal was selected on Day 2 by the Minnesota Twins, right-handed pitcher Hunter Kublick was chosen by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 18th round with the 545th overall pick. The Las Vegas native spent two seasons with UCC and started 13 games. He had a 2-1 career record with one save and a 2.37 ERA. In 60 ⅔ innings for the Riverhawks, Kublick struck out 64 while walking just 26.

Kublick will now have his shot to try and make a minor league roster and work his way to the big leagues.

Overall, 14 players with ties to the state of Oregon were selected in this year’s 20-round draft. The Oregon Ducks had six players selected while Oregon State had four, including current OSU quarterback DJ Uiagalelei who was taken by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the final round.

Three Oregon high school players were selected and Kublick was the only junior college draftee.
