GRANTS PASS — The Roseburg Dr. Stewart’s snapped a four-game losing skid with a doubleheader sweep against the Grants Pass Nuggets in an Area 4 matchup Monday at Reinhart Volunteer Park.

Evan Corbin and Colton Siewell both tossed complete-games to lead the Docs to victory. Cobin improved to 4-0 on the season with a 9-4 win in the opener and Siewell moved to 3-0 with an 11-4 win in the nightcap.

Grants Pass (4-19, 0-10 Area 4) took a 1-0 lead against Corbin on a sacrifice fly by Kellen Rapp in the fourth inning of Game 1, but the Docs immediately responded with four runs in the fifth.

Brooks Avery led off the frame with a double and was followed by four consecutive singles from Carson Dunn, Kade Johnson, Daniel Withers and Evan Martin.

Martin’s single gave Roseburg (14-13-1, 5-5) the lead. Logan Anderson and Sebastian Watson both drove in runs to push the Docs ahead 4-1.

The Stewies added five more runs in the sixth inning, which proved useful as the Nuggets rallied for three runs in the bottom of the seventh.

Knox Hubbard led four players with multiple hits, going 3-for-3 with a walk and a RBI.

Corbin scattered nine hits by the Nuggets over seven innings, while walking two, hitting a batter and striking out one.

Siewell allowed eight hits, three walks and struck out six in his seven innings of work in Game 2.

The two sides traded runs early and were tied 3-3 going to the fourth inning, where the Docs siezed the lead for good off of Grants Pass starter Vincent Palazzolo.

Anderson drove in the go-ahead run after Avery reached on a one-out walk. Martin and Carson also had RBIs in the frame.

Dunn finished the second game going 4-for-4 at the plate with a triple and a pair of runs batted in.

Caden Kuhnert led the Grants Pass offense with four hits total between both games. He reached base in six of eight plate appearances.

Roseburg will next host the Grants Pass Nuggets for another league doubleheader on Wednesday at Bill Gray Legion Stadium at Champion Car Wash Field. The series is set to begin at 5 p.m.
