
BEAVERTON — The Tigard Tigers outhit the Roseburg High School baseball team on Wednesday, but timely defense and hitting sent the Indians to a 6-2 win at the Mountainside Spring Break Tournament.
Roseburg (6-1) turned three inning-ending double plays to wipe out scoring opportunities for Tigard (2-4) and Eli Jacobs smacked a double in the third inning to give the Indians the lead for good.
The win is the fourth straight for the No. 8 Indians. Roseburg will conclude play in the tournament on Thursday against Oregon City at 2 p.m.
Roseburg almost scored in the first inning after Austin Takahashi started the game with a single. But the senior was thrown out at the plate to end the inning trying to score from second base on a single by Evan Corbin.
Tigard executed some small ball in the bottom of the first and took a 1-0 lead on a single by Jackson Barnachea.
Jacobs put Roseburg in front with his first double of the season. The senior drove in a pair of runs and scored on an error in the third inning to give the Indians a 3-1 advantage.
The Tigers got within 3-2 in the sixth inning and had the game-tying run in scoring position, but the Indians turned an inning-ending double play to squash the scoring threat.
Roseburg added three insurance runs in the seventh inning and Takahashi finished off the complete game victory, inducing another double play to end the contest.
Takahashi picked up his first win of the season, allowing six hits while striking out five and walking one.
