SPRINGFIELD — The Roseburg boys basketball team overcame a poor shooting first half to pull away for a 59-47 win over the Thurston Colts in a nonconference game Tuesday at Thurston High School.

Roseburg (9-2) and Thurston (6-5) traded baskets throughout the first half and the Colts held a slim 25-24 lead at halftime. Neither team led by more than three points.

The Indians got aggressive to begin the second half and the shots started to fall. Roseburg out-scored the Colts 35-22 after the break to easily pick up its sixth consecutive victory.

Hunter Fullerton scored 12 of his season-high 19 points in an explosive third quarter for the Tribe. The senior made three of his four 3-point shots in the period, helping Roseburg stretch the lead to double figures.

Mykah Mendoza chipped in 18 points for Roseburg.

Walker Bonar netted 16 points for Class 5A Thurston.

Roseburg will travel to Aloha on Friday to finish out nonconference play. The game is scheduled to get underway at 6:45 p.m.
