MEDFORD — The Medford Mustangs utilized the long-ball to put away the Roseburg Clint Newell Dr. Stewart’s in an Area 4 doubleheader on Wednesday at Lithia & Driveway Fields.

The Mustangs blasted a total of five home runs in 13-3 and 9-2 wins over the Docs.

The two teams will continue league play with a doubleheader in Roseburg at Bill Gray Legion Stadium at Champion Car Wash Field on Thursday.

Medford (19-5, 2-0 Area 4) catcher Jeremiah Robbins, the nephew of Docs head coach Jeremiah Robbins, had a big day at the plate. The North Medford product was 5-for-7 over the two games, with two home runs and eight RBIs.

Robbins’ first blast capped a five-run first inning for the Mustangs in Game 1. His two-run homer was the second for Medford in the inning. Tanner Douglas had previously hit a two-run shot to give the ‘Stangs the early momentum.

Dominic Tatone

Medford stretched the lead to 7-0 with a pair of runs on a double by Robbins in the fourth inning, but Roseburg (15-10, 0-2) rallied with three runs in the top of the fifth. Carson Dunn and Sebastian Watson both drove in runs for the Docs.

The momentum was short-lived as Medford pulled away with four more runs in the fifth inning. Jace Miller hit a three-run home run as a part of the outburst.

The Mustangs put the game away early with another two-runs in the sixth that put the lead at 10 runs.

Evan Corbin took his first loss of the season, going 4 2/3 innings, allowing eight runs on 10 hits with seven walks and four strikeouts.

Dominic Tatone was the bright spot at the plate for the Docs, going 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles.

Tatone got the start in Game 2 and kept the Mustang bats quiet throughout much of the game.

Roseburg took a 1-0 lead on a balk in the top of the first, but the Mustangs stole the lead back with a two-run single by Robbins in the home half of the first.

Medford added a run in the fourth on a single by Cameron Sewell and made it 4-1 with a solo shot by Robbins in the fifth.

The Docs scratched out a run in the top of the sixth on a groundout by Corbin, but the Mustangs again responded by putting up five runs in the bottom of the frame to seal the win.

Tatone left the game with the score 4-2, but reliever Jordan White allowed two inherited runners to score and gave up three more runs on a home run by Owen Thompson.

Tatone took his first loss of the season, allowing six runs on 10 hits, while striking out seven and walking four.

Sebastian Watson had two of the Docs three hits in the nightcap. Kade Johnson had a hit in both games and extended his season-high hitting streak to nine games.
