
High school basketball in the Umpqua Basin finished up on Saturday with three teams playing for trophies.
The Sutherlin Bulldogs finished third in the Class 3A girls tournament thanks to a 62-38 win over Oregon Episcopal at Marshfield High School on Saturday afternoon.
The Bulldogs showed no signs of letdown after losing 48-44 to Nyssa in the semifinals on Friday and missing out on the chance to play for a state title.
Sutherlin jumped out to a 26-13 lead at halftime and continued to cruise from there.
Micah Wicks scored a game-high 32 points in the final game of the season for Sutherlin. The junior was an unanimous selection to the All-Tournament first team. Sutherlin sophomore Madison Wagner was also chosen for All-Tournament honors, landing on the second team.
The North Douglas girls closed out their season with a 60-53 loss to Country Christian on Saturday at Baker High School. The Warriors earned a fifth-place finish in the 1A bracket.
The game was close through the first three quarters, with neither side leading by more than six. North Douglas was ahead by two going to the fourth quarter, but an 8-0 run by Country Christian in the final five minutes was the difference in the ballgame.
Samantha MacDowell had a game-high 21 points to lead the Warriors. She earned a second team selection to the All-Tournament team.
The North Douglas boys stormed past Nixyaawii 62-47 to win a fourth place trophy in the 1A playoffs on Saturday morning in Baker City. Ray Gerard capped off a strong showing in the tournament with his third straight double-double. The junior had 21 points and 12 rebounds in Saturday’s trophy game and was named to the All-Tournament first team.
Riddle’s Mario Giannotti was voted to the 1A boys All-Tournament second team. Riddle went 0-2 in the tournament.
