HALSEY — The Sutherlin girls basketball team survived a scare in a top 10 showdown with Central Linn on Wednesday.

The No. 3 Bulldogs led by 13 at halftime, but the Cobras, ranked third in the 2A coaches poll, got hot and rallied to force overtime. Sutherlin locked in during the extra period to pull off the 66-62 non-league victory.

Sutherlin (14-1, 1-0 Far West League) led by as many as 18-points in the contest, but a sluggish fourth quarter allowed Central Linn (9-2, 4-0 Central Valley Conference) to fight its way back.

Junior Maya Rowland sank six 3-point shots for the Cobras, but the biggest was just before the end of regulation. Rowland crossed half court and pulled up from 28 feet away to drill the game-tying shot just before the buzzer, sending the game to overtime tied at 54-all.

In overtime, Sutherlin freshman Madison Huntley scored all six of her points to help the Bulldogs outscore the Cobras 12-8.

Micah Wicks scored a game-high 31 points to lead Sutherlin. Rowland led Central Linn with 24 points.
