Linn-Benton Community College freshman Shalyn Gray – a former South Umpqua High School three-sport standout – was selected as the Northwest Athletic Conference South Region volleyball MVP, the NWAC announced on Wednesday.

Gray led Linn-Benton in kills (239) and was second in digs (258). Fellow South Umpqua alum Sydnie Johnson, a sophomore at LBCC, was named to the South Region second team after leading the Road Runners in assists (508).

The Road Runners went 28-2 this season and were South Region champs. Linn-Benton has won matches in the first two rounds of the NWAC Tournament and will continue play at the final tournament site in Lakewood, Washington as part of the final eight teams remaining.

Gray, Johnson and LBCC will compete in the Elite 8 round on Saturday against Bellevue.
