The Roseburg High volleyball team finally got its chance to play a home match this season and the Indians came out fired up as they swept their way past the Grants Pass Cavemen on Tuesday.

Roseburg (3-3) won by scores of 25-13, 25-18 and 25-21.

The Tribe played the first two weeks of its season on the road, while Douglas County remained at the Extreme Risk Level. With the county dropping to High Risk last Friday, indoor volleyball became an approved activity under the state guidelines.

Senior Sierra Paroz was a big part of Roseburg’s attack with a team-high 12 kills. The senior said it was great to be back at Stewart W. Robertson Memorial Gymnasium.

“I definitely think we played well. Our chemistry was really good tonight and I think that just being home, we wanted to just kick their butts,” Paroz said.

Roseburg controled the first two sets from early on, but had to rally in the third set to capture the victory. Grants Pass (0-6) had taken a 17-9 advantage before Roseburg fought back to win.

Paroz said it was fun to be able to win at home, but the team had to find ways to create their own energy without the fans.

“During the game, we were kind of like ‘we got to get pumped up,'” Paroz explained. “It was kind of weird because we’re usually used to having the Bum Squad here cheering us on.”

The Roseburg girls will get back to action on Thursday with a home match against Crater.
