Jonathan Smith and Mario Cristobal provided updates on the injury status of key pieces for Oregon State and Oregon as both head coaches prepare for games on the road this week.
Oregon State’s Smith gave an update on starting quarterback Tristan Gebbia, who was sidelined with a hamstring injury for the game-winning touchdown against Oregon on Saturday.
Smith said the injury is significantly more serious than initially thought on Saturday. The Beavers are hopeful that Gebbia can get as close to full speed by the end of the week and be available for OSU’s game at Utah.
If Gebbia is unavailable, Smith made it clear that Chance Nolan would be in line to start for the Beavers.
Oregon’s Cristobal said that starting running back CJ Verdell is expected to be okay for this week’s game at Cal on Saturday. Verdell got dinged up in the loss to Oregon State and missed nearly all of the second half. The junior is Oregon’s leading rusher and is tied for the team lead in rushing touchdowns.
Cristobal also reported that sophomore receiver Mycah Pittman is now available for the Ducks to utilize on offense. Pittman has played in just two games so far this year, but became available on Friday.
Oregon also expects to be getting guys back in the defensive secondary, including starting safety Nick Pickett and nickel back Jamal Hill.
