Pac-12 student athletes in all sports will be allowed to return to college campuses for voluntary in-person workouts starting June 15, the conference announced Tuesday. Workouts are subject to the decision of each individual campus and where permissible by relevant governmental entities.
The decision was made by the Pac-12 CEO Group and follows the decision made last week by the NCAA to permit conferences and schools to reopen for on-campus voluntary athletic activities in all sports starting June 1.
The Oregon and Oregon State campuses remain closed through the end of the spring quarter, June 12 for both schools, per the directive of Oregon Gov. Kate Brown’s executive order. However, the counties both schools reside in, Lane and Benton, are in Phase 1 of reopening, which gives clearance for private gyms and fitness centers to be open.
If the counties remain on track to move into Phase 2, they could do so starting on June 5 at the earliest. Details on what exactly Oregon’s Phase 2 stage will allow have not yet been released by the Governor’s office.
