The NCAA Division I Council voted Monday to approve an extra year of eligibility for all spring sports athletes who had their seasons cut short due to COVID-19.

The NCAA is allowing teams to increase their number of scholarships to account for incoming recruits and seniors who elect to return for one more season. Schools will not be required to give those seniors the same level of scholarship aid as they received this season if they come back for another year.

Roster limits are also being increased to accommodate the larger pool of student-athletes.

Winter sport athletes, who saw their season cut short before championship events could be held, will not be granted another year of eligibility.
